Well,
We started assembelling the engine last night. Worked on it till
12pm. Poped off the freeze plugs and (YUK!) cleaned as much crud out
as I could get to and then blew it out with an air hose. Installed
new brass freeze plugs. I cleaned the cam bearings, lubed up the new
Isky cam with the suplied moly lube, and installed the cam. I then
installed the timing set. Before installing the timing set There is
some casting flash in the oil slot in the cam gear that had to be
filed out( very important step) to make sure oil gets to the timing
gears and dist gear. Next was to degree the cam. My cam is within 2
degrees! Awsome. ( I sure am learning alot from Bill.(AMC Team grem
owner)
Next was to see if I have enough valve to piston clearance with my
modified heads. Out cme the playdough. Plenty of room :o)
Turned the motor over and poped off the rear main. Bearings look ok
slight scoring but stil nice for a 100k mile engine. Installed new
rear main seals. Reinstalled main cap. Cleaned out oil pan bolt holes
and sump hole. Wiped gasket surface with MEK. Installed oil pic-up
tube. Checked oil pan gasket fit. Sprayed block side of gasket with
adhesive spray. Stuck gasket to block with all holes lined up.
Installed my new Milodon Deep Sump oilpan using bolts from my new
stainless steel engine bolt kit. Now its startin to look sweet!
ok roll engine back over. Put on new ROL head haskets and install
heads.
Call it a night.
still got lots to do but it is starting to come together.
I will take a few pics today.
Davis :o)>
