That lip where the firewall meets the cowl by the wiper motor is a pain for clearance if you have a 6 Cyl and want to do a valve cover gasket on a metal valve cover, I never did one on a plastic one. There is also a a clearance problem there if you try to put an Aluminum valve cover on that has to be cured with a BFH, been there done that on my friends 78 Concord 6 cyl 4 speed AMX. I would imagine there is plenty of room with a SB, that is why it is so popular. A friend of my son's had a 302 Ford in a Gremlin. I never got to look under the hood to see how that fit. I know the Ford is narrower than the Chevy but is longer in front like the AMC V8's.
