OOPS MY GOOF it is a Z not an X. It came with a model 20 with 4.10 posi, torque links, and the guy I got it from said it was a factory v-8 4 spd car ?

The 7th digit on my 72 gremlin X is an X what does that mean?
It came with a v-8 but it was gone when I got the car.

It should say H, H meant 304 2V N meant 360 2V in Hornets and other AMCs P was 360 4v which only SC/Hornets got and Jav AMX's and cop cars and full sized AMC cars and trucks got and Z was 401 and it only came with a 4V Mahcines had a Y digit due to its 390 having that special white stripe cam thus it had the most HP of a factory AMC V8 340 HP i'm not sure about the 258 6 banger digits but the 232 which is what mine was says E but if yours says X then it wasn't a factory V8 does it have a model 20 rear?

Sure it was a good deal?does the 7th digit on your VIN no. say H?if not then it isn't afactory V8 gremlin double check that if you can

Wel I got my gremmy last night in the dark and 10 deg!!:( Friggen
Cold!!!!

Looks good except for a inner fender on the pass side that has cuased
some rottout on the frame end but nothing too serious.
Body is is sweet shape from fenders back with lots of parking lot
dings on the doors and a few dents here and there.

Has a finger tip rust hole on the rear fender edge down at the bottom.

Tires are shot! LOL!!!  Has a Crummy dual exhaust set up on it thats
rotted but will give me a idea on how to route the new one.

All glass is good except for the windshield it looks to have been
shot with a bb gun in two places. I may try to have them epoxied to
save buying a new one for now.
Front seat is shot but back is mint but dried out.
Carpet is shot from front to rear.

Luggage rack is in good shape but the outer fins on the spoiler are
pitted real bad.
Gas tank is needing replaced or boiled out.
304 in it isnt running, tranny condition is unknown.


So basilcy good body with a few exceptions and factory v8.
