Now I remember that was what it was called. It seemed to have a funny way of retaining the brake pads. I think I still may have the setup buried in the back of my garage behind my son's Javelin project car. Any how I liked the Bendix setup out of the 79 Concord so I used that on the yellow car. It was a non power setup. I used it with a power drum brake master and booster but plumbed in a Wilwood proportioning valve in case I needed to adjust it. The Concord did not have any kind of proportioning valve or combo valve. I set the proportioning valve in the center and never had to adjust it. I still have to tweak it a little this spring. The car stops fine and that drum brake fade due to the heat build up is finally not an issue any more. Where I live there is a lot of hills and brake fade was always a problem. The car also has the rear out of the same Concord so it also has the bigger rear brakes. I still need to remove the residual check valve in the master for the front brakes. Also the brake pedal is a touch low, the cure for that is to adjust the length on the rod behind the master. Been there done that before. "Doc" Yahoo! Subject: Re: Spirit = Hornet = Concord = Gremlin = Disc Brakes
I parted out an 82 Spirit about 5 years ago. It had what appeared to
have different rotors and calipers than the ones I got off a 79
Concord that I put on my yellow Hornet. To tell you the truth they
appeared to be some what smaller than the ones out of the Concord. My
yellow car has the Bendix brakes out of the 79 and my orange car has
the factory optional Kelsey Hayes. I would imagine swapping all the
parts, spindle's and all is the same as from other AMC cars. "Doc"

There is a 'Lo Drag' caliper that came out in '81 or '82 -
something about the caliper retracting the pad pucks
back far enough to not contact the rotor - which usually
keeps the pucks in place.
