In the instance of welding them to the cross member is fine for a race car and without a rubber motor mount everything ends up pretty much the right height. But it is totally impractical for a street car. The vibration would resonate through the whole car. "Doc" ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> Yahoo! Autos. Yes Doc, I completely agree. But the question was "can" they be used. And yes it is possible. Some people without the correct crossmember or mounting plates caould save a few hundred bucks with a days worth of work. The Amc Team Gremlin had the taller mounts welded to the crossmember.Davis

It is possible to use the taller mounts. It requires you to bolt the motor and tranny together and then bolt the mounts to the motor. Then lower it all into place. Mount the tranny, Set up your exhaust(Headers/manafolds) then mark the locations of the motor mount holes on the cross member. Pull it all out and drill the holes then put it all back together! This can be done using the 6 cross member also.Davis
