God help us that there are still a few of us old pain in the asses left alive that know these old cars. It was cold an damp with some sporadic rain today. As usual parts don't come on time and when they do you get two of them as with my rebuilt distributor for the orange car. From 2 different re-manufactures noless. I picked the one that looked like it was the most professional looking re-maned job. I took it and the car to the mechanic that is doing my work. He had no problem installing it but asked if the points were set at the factory as he hadn't seen a points distributor in many years. He is only 34-35 years old. He popped it in, set nothing. I set the timing by ear for now and told him to leave the distributor a bit loose so I could time it under a load going up a hill. I haven't timed it or re-adjusted the points or carb yet but it runs soooo much better with a dist. that doesn't have shaft wobble and a properly working vacuum advance. All this puppy need's is 20 min. of the "Doctor's" magic hand to set it all up and it will run as good as new now. Oh it still needs the manual choke installed, that will be next week. Oh I can hear it now why a manual choke. The car has a rebuilt Carter 1 bbl and the automatic chokes are just crap, they were when they were new and are still now. I have a had a manual choke on my yellow car for 3 years with the Carter carb and also for the last 20 years with the Holley Economaster carb. All of my knowledge from the yellow car I did to make it as a driver is being incorporated into the orange car. Sorry Eddie I don't want an original AMC oil filter, all I want is a dependable driver.
