Terry, great question. From my own experience, what I have done thru the years is strip off all old vinyl, then sand it smooth and fill any holes, then coat it with POR-15, I swear by this stuff. And yes, have had two vinyl roofs reinstalled on AMCs after this is done, and no problems. One car I kept for 8 years and no rust, or bubbles, anything, so at least for me, this method worked. Sure wished I could see that Pacer now with the vinyl roof/.......

I agree Eddie here in Louisville the humidity is always high in the summer and most cars I have seen with vinyl tops have rust spots under them after a few years. My question is how do you get the metal underneath the tops smooth enough to paint after you get them off. Most of them are so rough it is not funny. Around here the ones I know sand them down the best they can and put another one on.
