Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Re: Ardsley Show & AMC Owner's Participation

I haven't spoken to my friend yet. We usually go to lunch on friday's so
that is probably when I will see him and find out what his thoughts are.
For me I have been driving Rambler's & AMC's since 1962 when I was 16
years old. Over the years I have taken a lot of abuse on my choice of
car. Finally after 42 years I am getting nothing but compliments on my
cars. It's about time as I have been the butt of many jokes. I try to
support AMC shows when I can but due to poor health I cannot travel to
far any more so this is the one I attended both times this year. The
only AMC's that I think will ever be worth any real money are the Muscle
cars, not the bread and butter Rambler's, Hornet's, Gremlin's or
Concord's. They were out of my price range when they were new and still
are out of my price range now. I was content with my yellow Hornet and
just by sheer luck I got a second chance and got the orange one before
it was going to be cut up as a race car. The white 74 Hornet Hatchback I
was interested in buying a few weeks ago was an extremely nice car. The
owner said he had 15,000$ in the car and was asking 5,500$. I am sorry
to say I still think even as nice a car as it is he will not get it. I
would have given him 3,000$ and added the only part that was needed to
finish the car, a rear bumper and all the parts to install it which I
have. The upside is I would have had a finished turn key car the down
side is I would have spent half the 6,000$ left in the car budget for
the 2 Hornets I already have, so I am glad I didn't buy it. If you are
restoring an old car no matter what brand it is forget about making a
profit selling it or getting your money back immediately as it may take
years to appreciate in value to cover the cost of restoration if ever
unless it is a super rare big 3 Muscle car. Me i'll just stick to me
Hornet's. Monday while running some errands I had 2 people compliment me
on the orange car.

--- Begin Message --- Sorry about the poor showing at your AMC show Doc. I would love for there to be one close to me. I could have an AMC show in my driveway. Actually I have been told that there are quite a few AMC owners around here but they don't go to local shows they just make 3 or 4 big shows out of state every year. I know there is an AMO chapter listed for my area. The guy with the Hornet Wagon ask me a lot of questions about local clubs and where to find parts. He said he called the guy that was listed for the AMO club and he said that he acted like he didn't know anything about it. I said that didn't surprise me. The only help I could come up with was to give him the name of this group. I don't think he was very computer literate so I don't know if we will get a new member or not. Tell your friend Doc not to give up on his show .. I know I am crazy but I really think AMC cars are going to g et  popular in the not to for away future. I thought it was me but in the last few years I thought the price tag they were putting on the Mustangs, Camero's, ect were going out of site. Well on the news this morning they said since there was no money to be made on the stock market that a lot of guys were investing in Muscle cars and the price of them have doubled and in some cases even tripled in the last 3 or 4 years. I think a lot of guys when they see theses big prices for those things will think the AMC's look good. I know a guy I work with really wanted a Mustang and he is now looking at a Javelin because the Javelin is a third the price and is in twice the shape as the old Mustangs he has looked at. I don't know if I want them to get to popular or not. I like going to the shows and knowing I am going to be the only Gremlin and a lot of times the only AMC car there.
Terry
