RE: [BaadAssGremlins] Ardsley Show & AMC Owner's Participation

Sorry John since I have been on line for 4 years almost now I see how
the deal is. It's the same as when I belonged to a car club in the late
70's-early 80's. Everyone complains and no one does anything. The
complaint is no shows or the small show was cancel for lack of
participation or as the case of the AMO Nat's in Arizona why weren't
there more of the old Ramblers and only AMX's or Javelin's. The "Key" is
participation, I know that there are not a lot of AMC's around and they
are spread thin. With all my disabilities and there are to many to even
mention or I would make myself depressed I managed to bring one car. As
far as holding a pole of members of internet groups in the tri-state
area, I am not interested. If you feel like using my original E-Mail to
this group to do so feel free to use it with my blessing. Me I am going
to do what I have done for the last 40 years, own and drive my AMC's and
enjoy them. I may take the yellow one out to the local cruise tonight
with the wife for some fun as the season is coming to an end soon. By
the way the only thing lacking on the show site is a place for the
children to play at. The only child in 4 years that I know of was the
the daughter of the person that put on the show. Later all. Time now to
go drive the Flamed Yellow Hornet, I drove the orange one all morning
doing errands. It is so nice to have 2 AMC's to drive.

--- Begin Message --- Doc,

I had planned to attend, but my Hornet is still sitting
in Kansas, awaiting transport...and nothing else AMC that
I have is roadable at the moment. But the car is now
slated to arrive by the coming weekend, so I hope to get
her out and seen then.

Combine that with my attendance on Saturday at Warminster,
PA's show...which I followed up with a dinner/drinks/bar
band thing my wife had with friends, and I was in poor
shape Sunday AM.

Sorry to see the light turnout. Maybe we should run a quick
poll on this and other AMC groups. Find out how many members
live within 90 minutes of the show location. Of those folks,
how many have a street-legal or trailerable AMC? Just to get
an idea of how many potential cars you have via just these
mailing lists and forums. Then, post the show info on as
many club websites as have ads. Ditto on all car classifieds
sites. Then, have any 'club' member owners use their 'free
newsletter ads' rights to advertise the show.

Finally, I haven't seen your location in person, but I think
it helps to have a site where more activities are possible
than just showing the cars. One natural is food service of
some kind, whether a show-provided buffet, or food vendor(s),
or an adjacent restaurant. As always follows food & drink,
restrooms are a biggie. And another plus is an area and
activity to keep kids busy. These things all work not only
to attract more cars, but it keeps them on site longer...
because while dad is going through the crevices with a
toothbrush, Junior can be trying to kill himself on the
monkey bars. And thirst and bladder relief is local.

Other factors are things like participant nick-knacks (cheap
stuff like keychains and dash plaques are usually enough to
get folks more interested), area roads and traffic (i.e.,
must cars dodge heavy potholes and rolling gun battles to
find the site). And, of course, other shows on the same
weekend in the vicinity. Some folks can't do BOTH weekend
days because they are compromising with other family to have
the 'other day' for events the others want to do (those sick
bastards!! ;) ).

Just some observations in case any of this isn't covered at
your current location.

John

Subject: [BaadAssGremlins] Ardsley Show & AMC Owner's Participation

Well weather wise the show was a huge success and I can prove it by the
sunburn on my bald head. Participation wise in my book compared to the
spring show (22 AMC's) it was a dismal failure in my book participation
wise. The quality of the 12 cars there was top notch, 4 clean daily
driver cars, my friend who put on the show's 68 AMX, a work in progress
and his 63 American along with a few humpster Javelins, a couple of
Spirits and a beautiful silver Gremmie and an original 39,000 mile
little old lady 72 Hornet SST and a beautiful 69 AMX.  My Hornet got the
daily driver trophy. Now I have one trophy for each Hornet. I can't
understand why with no AMC shows in the local area that there was such a
poor turn out on a nice day. It's not that this is the first time the
fall show has been put on. It is the 4th year. Although last year was
rained out and there was no rain date. I initiated a rain date in both
the spring and fall shows and we didn't need them this year. I could see
my friend was disappointed with the turn out. He wasent going to have
the spring show but I talked him into it. He does 99% of the work
putting this thing together by himself with me doing what I can to
advertize it on the various on line AMC groups. I feel bad for him. I
didn't even want to ask about the spring show because with the poor
showing yesterday I think there might not be one or even a fall show. So
don't complain if the smaller local events start to disappear, it's not
that there is a lack of cars, but lack of owner participation. And it is
usually the non-participating owners that are the first to complain.
Sorry I had to get this off my chest.
