Thanks Doc. Yes, I keep thinking of how proud Dad would have been to
see me bring home that trophy. The alternator is a Delco and I don't
know why the light stays on. I found the gauge problem - bad fuse

Sorry about the alt problem. What alt did you use? I hope a Delco not
that POS Motorola. From over 30 years experience with the Motorola the
alt light will be red and the alt will still charge before it dies.
It's something to do with the diode trio. When I rebuilt my Motorola
for the orange car I had a problem and I have rebuilt many of them. I
also had 2 bad ones from the auto parts store. I went for the one wire
100 amp Delco over the 35 amp Motorola. There is a small wiring kit to
make the alt light work with the Delco but since I have a voltmeter I
didn't bother with it. The alt light just goes out when the car
starts.
