I know that C lyde Tewell of Tewell motors brought the first Jeep into is AMC dealership for his own use. 
A Commando, 304 auto and even had a real mobile phone in the back. He drove it till it could no longer safely be driven. 
The acquisition seemed to hit different dealers at different times.

I know that AMC aquired Jeep in 1970. but my Dads Rambler dealership was selling Jeeps as early as 1961.
