Also other tuneup/running ingredients can affect the running. Bad vacuum advance, points set incorrectly, accel pump clogged, vacuum leak, timing too far retarded (more often than too far advanced), incorrect plug heat range for fuel (alcohol laced fuels want colder plugs). 
   Sooo many factors like vacuum leaks (manifold, carb base, brake booster, wrong PCV, etc) to account for. Factory specs for 19XX don't account for current situations. Wear and tear (timing chain slop, aftermarket parts, etc)
   You need to go through each thing each tune up or it's not done right and power/economy are left on the table.

Carbureted cars can be very persnickety when cold, and even when warm.
Several factors effect this.
Fuel mixture at particular rpms based on choke settings. adjustment of the 
choke pull off, the heatriser functionality
interior cleanliness of carburetor, properly adjusted carburetor (jets, 
transfer ports, needle and seat, fuel level in the bowl,
