Its a 727 trans in the GW, same as in the AMC cars, just for a 4WD transfercase.  You can pick up a trans from one of the GW guys over at www.ifsja.org ... conversion to a TH400 does not gain you anything.  Conversion to a stick (Like I'm doing) is a lot of work, unless you're planning to make a trail rig out of it.  IF you're just gonna drive it, I recommend sticking with the torqueflight 727.

Hey all! I've bought an 87 Grand Wagoneer and reverse is out. What type of automatic trans did these use? Can these be converted over to the TH400 amc case or what kind of can of worms would I open if I wanted to put a manual trans in it?
