Dexron is the way to go. Costal may still make Type A (they did a couple years back) but Dexron replaced it at some point.

I've been running Dexron 3 in my American with no problems, though the tranny has been complaining for about 5 or so years. I have my beater Classic draining right now and it will be my transplant at the end of the summer if I don't find a good 327 before then.
This car was hot rodded back in the day, it has a deep fluted pan and I talked to the original owner who clued me into its past. I'm the third owner. So will Dex 3 work in this tranny and is there a better choice. I switched to syn oil in the engine and want to treat this engine/tranny right
