[AMC-list] Left fender needed for 68 Rebel SST

Hi guys,

I've been lurking here for awhile and it's good to see all of the old timers here! I'm gonna throw this out there as I've had no luck on the forums or CL and Ebay.

My 18 yr old son has a very clean 68 Rebel SST that we bought on the forum couple of yrs ago. It needs a few things like a dash pad and a glove box lock but what it really needs is a drivers side front fender and the one yr only for 68 top side stainless trim.

If you guys know of any leads please contact me on the AMC forums (sonofamx) or here or smokinamx@yahoo .com

We have a small stash of 70 rebel stuff like door handles and some trim if anyone is interested.

Thank you,
Steve Alimorong

I had a number of NOS AMC Spacesaver spares that are D78x14....whole rim, tire, valve
stem, have slowly sold them off thru years, used to have whole WALL of them, might have a
handful left, this was one i tossed onto ebay in April if link still good. NOS setup $99
no bites:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250799725119&viewitem=

as for just the tire, it really depends. If you have just tire and there is no "issues"
like weather cracks on side or splits around seam, you have to understand that when you,
or someone, goes to mount it, you will probably have problems....especially around seal
due to simply age.

However, as someone pointed out, if you are doing a restoration that could b the missing
puzzle piece depending on wear. A lot of folks, myself included would trailer the AMC to
meets, then once there, jack it up and put on D78x14s or whatever original tire the car
came with....and put the Cragars or American Racing tires and rims back in trailer. So for
show only, minor driving, nothing more, judges love it.

I had a original good looking Polyglas tire I sold on ebay 2 years ago, it had been
demounted and stored since 1984. Looked great and someone paid $210 for it. Might have
been that missing piece of puzzle or might have been a expensive door stop when inflated
and mounted.

Anybody running headers and stock starter on an Ambo or Rebel with the
trunnion suspension?  The headers go into place on my 69 Ambo 390 but I
can not get a stock or high torque starter to fit.  The headers hit the
bottom of starter before the flange will mate with the head.  I have spun
the high torque (mini) starter in as many different positions as I can
and still put the mounting bolts in but the headers still hit.  No matter
what body style the headers should clear the starter.  So, before I
wrestle with the heavy antique starter, will it fit and what is the
trick?  Many years ago I ran headers on my 70 Rebel with the stock
starter but these seem to be a PIA.

Thanks

Yeah, I know all about the trailor queen thing; having your car period correct, changing things at the show, towing cars to shows, etc. I don't believe in it, but I understand the thinking (ugh). ?I just hope the person buying that old tire remembers it is only for looks, not to be used on the road. I wouldn't want that guy driving on those skins to blow, and me right in his path.
The closest I came to having a trailor queen was when I was racing my Gremlin, With 4;56 gears and slicks it was a no-brainer.
The tire industry suggest changing tires after three years use. I do have some tires older than 3 years and I check tire condition everyyear if the tire shows no wear. Those of us with stables can't change every 3 years, but look at your tires close. The DOT code will tell you what week and year the tire is made, and it is right there on the sidewall. I have bought a set of new tires that were already a year old just sitting in the warehouse......Russ

Yes they fit with the stock starter.
You need to have the headers in but not bolted up get the starter in place then
bolt everything? up.
?Good luck it is allways a PIA!

Awhile ago there was a thread about what ATF to run in the BWs. What did everyone decide? I've been running Dexron 3 in my American with no problems, though the tranny has been complaining for about 5 or so years. I have my beater Classic draining right now and it will be my transplant at the end of the summer if I don't find a good 327 before then.
This car was hot rodded back in the day, it has a deep fluted pan and I talked to the original owner who clued me into its past. I'm the third owner. So will Dex 3 work in this tranny and is there a better choice. I switched to syn oil in the engine and want to treat this engine/tranny right

Some years ago I bought a 68 Ambo with 343 and a pair of fat Headman headers bolted up. You do indeed need to just start the header bolts, but not tighten them, to install the starter. Then tighten the starter.
I had several cars that had to be done that way, not just AMCs Thats why I don't like headers on a street car. That and the stupid speed bumps they install around automobile-hating Oregon cities......Russ

I sold one of the inflatable spares from a 73 Javelin on eBay about 8 years
ago for $80.  It had never been used, but was only in fair condition.
