Some years ago I bought a 68 Ambo with 343 and a pair of fat Headman headers bolted up. You do indeed need to just start the header bolts, but not tighten them, to install the starter. Then tighten the starter.
I had several cars that had to be done that way, not just AMCs Thats why I don't like headers on a street car. That and the stupid speed bumps they install around automobile-hating Oregon cities......Russ
