Re: [AMC-list] 86 camanche info

You can find out from googling the VIN number (on the dash and door post) or say what the 8th character is on the VIN or look underneath to see if an exhaust pipe is on the passenger's side by the motor or not. (if there is, it's V8 and it goes to a Y pipe) Rear springs are coil on the Grand Cherokees.
To lift the MJ, do an SOA and weld new spring perches on top directly above the old ones. (5 1/2" usually) I put plates between my springs and axle (from the J4000 from anti-swaybar) to mount the OEM shocks approx same as original height. The rear hose can be mounted lower on the bracket for the load sensor (I threw that away)

well, i may have found a 93-95 (that body style anyway, cant get ahold of the person whos place its sitting on, even tho i know her pretty well) jeep grand cherokee. i havent gotten ahold of her yet, but its front/rear bumpers are all gone, its rough outside, been sitting in the same place for 3 years that i know of. im HOPING its a 4.0. if so, ill take the entire drive train minus axles, and put into the mj if i get it. ill take time, and build it right. that could make for a great huntin rig. its the long box also, so we can load a couple of elk in there. if i lift it a few inches to fit 31's or maybe even 33's, it will go anywhere. to lift those, can you just get an xj (or what ever series its based off of i forget) lift kit and all is good?? i hear the rear springs are longer and specific to the mj. may have to do some measuring for them if thats the case i guess, unless i wanted to just go cheap and use blocks. im not sure why im thinking so much on
this, as i dont even have it yet. this sunday, dad and i are supposed to go look at it, and maybe decide. if we get it, then i guess the planning for the build can begin. (yarding in on the reins now)
