[AMC-list] SX4 running issues... clutch boost and DON't try to move without driveshaft

Agreed on  not running at all without the driveshaft in.  If it has been run
that way, there is a good chance the VC is fried... drain the fluid and see if
there is any thick gray fluid in it... if so the VC is done.  You can replace
the fluid and still drive it.

Once u hook up the driveshaft check the fluid in the master cyl for the clutch.
If it is empty, try filling it up and then crack open the slave cylinder bleeder
screw... let it flow until there are no bubbles coming through... but don't let
the MC go dry, which doesn't take long!  Many times, this will often get your
Clutch going for awhile.

Have a great weekend,

Jesse

ok, so my issues are getting solved on the new sx4. i was tinkerin with it some
more tonight. did what jim blair had said and swapped 1/6 plug wires to make it
backfire to blow out the carb. still didnt work after i put them back. it
backfired after that (it would do once in a while anyway) and i just so happend
to be looking at the carb when it backfired. and POOF!!! i saw a bark of flame
out the back side of the manifold next to the manifold/brake booster. waddya
know. there was a threaded hole where a plug or SOMETHING was at one time. stuck
a bolt in it to plug it for now. fired right up and idled pretty dang nice. the
stepper motor and micro switch on the choke are not hooked up. so, i decided it
was time to put the radiator in, and fill with water. (didnt run it for more
than 1-2 min dry and let it sit for about 1hour after) filled it with water and
let it idle for 1 hour or so. temp gauge wont work. where is the sensor at? i
cant find it. i had a
mechanical gauge dropped in the radiator cap hole. read solid 170* steady once
the t-stat opend. hooked up vacume line to the 4x4 stuff. clutch master is gone,
and rear drive shaft is out. try to slide into first, car wanted to creap
forward. so, feels like 4x4 might work. got the car for $125, have $35 in parts
in it now. i think im goin to have a CHEAP winter driver. need to get all fluids
changed before i drive it more than a mile from the house. im EXCITED!!!!
