My Grand Cherokee does if the whole gate is open. If its just the top window it is OK. 

The American wagon has a funky tail pipe that is roughly S shaped backwards. They dump the exhaust behind the left rear wheel.  Over the years most owners cheaped out and put sedan tail pipe tips on, then you get the fumes!

be careful when running with the tailgate down. creates a vacume there that
will suck the exhaust right in. well, it does on my wifes exploder HORIBLY.
im not sure how it would do with that tailgate laying down flat. a 15 mile
trip and i was pretty sick.
