I don't think you can get too big a tire on those size wheels to encounter
clearance problems. More importantly though is the offset or backspacing
of the wheel in relation to the hub and the fenders. That's where you will
encounter clearance troubles. If you get the wrong backspace you'll
have issues. You need to go to a wheel/tire dealer and ask him to test fit
your car to determine the correct backspace of the wheel. Or do
some more research on the web to figure it out.
I don't have torq thrust wheels on the white Javelin, I've got the new
version of Ansen Sprints, 17 x 7 front and 17 x 8 on the back. Wish I could
remember the backspace, cause these wheels fit great, whereas the old chrome
slotted steel wheels gave me troubles the whole time I had them.
I didn't get the correct backspace for the rear wheels and the tires would
contact the fenders when going up driveaways at an angle or hitting big
bumps.
Backspacing of the wheel can be critical.
Go to some one who does wheels for a living, you'll be happy you did.
