Re: [AMC-list] 82 Concord speedometer cable tooth gear wanted

Also.
The Speedo adapter going into the trans is an eccentric, off center. It has to be rotated to the proper position or the driven/cable gear does not engage to the drive gear on the trans output.

Yeah that could be a 727. If it is someone else stuck it in there. 904/998 small case trans would have been in there originally.

Joes got it correct on gears and colors.

Post back if you find out what gear you need. I have one I'll never need.

I would go to another mechanic if he can't tell the difference between a 727 and a 904.  It's 904 if it is the stock transmission and I think you know that Eddie.  If you pull the old gear and see what color it is you can go to a Chrysler Jeep dealer and order the same color gear.  The gear will also have the  number of teeth stamped on it.  The color varies by number of teel on the gear.

Hey everyone, I recently bought a low miler 82 Concord DL wagon from original owner and the speedometer does not work. I pulled gauges and dash area to see if the cable spins when driving, nothing happened. Figured would be good time to change a few burned out little gauge cluster bulbs anyways. It looks like I will be needing the speedometer cable tooth gear that goes inside the trans. Anyone know where to get one, my mechannic said it is a 727 in there with the 258-6, I say it is a 904, the book shows several plastic gears with variety of teeth. Feel free to reply here as I will be reading and thanks in advance to all who might reply.
