I wouldn't be so hard on Hemmings Classic Car.  Of course we all have our own opinions and there might be some things that don't appeal to us, but it has to be the most interesting rag out there for the average old car fan.  I often pull out old issues of the magazine and re-read articles before bedtime.    
 
The "Driveable Dream" articles are always interesting.  Jeff Koch and Jim Donnelly are two of the best writers in the business right now IMHO.  And Dan Stroehl I think has put his brand on the magazine and has done some great work.  Of course Pat Foster focuses on the Independents and AMC gets it's share of print largely due to his input.  And I learn something from almost every Ray Bohacz column. 
 
They have announced that they will include classic trucks in the mag now and that pleases me greatly.  They could include tractors too, for all I care.
 
You make a good point though about road trips and modified cars.  I think their editorial team has the savvy to do such stories with great skill.  The "true classics" guys though might get upset by such stories and threaten to drop their subscriptions like they did when HCC started covering 70s cars, like some of our AMCs and the Pinto for example.  It's hard to please everyone.  
 
And.... you could also submit road trip articles to the AMC forum.  We'd love to see pics of your beagle with his nose out the window.  I've met Tom J.s dogs and I can imagine how much they like to ride.  You could submit pictures of your paint repair and learning to use a spray gun.

Okay, I get Hemming's Classic car magazine. Have subscribed for a
while, and when I let my subscription lapse - I pick it up at the
bookstore. I don't know if it's just me - but it seems that there is
more emphasis on full classics, 100% restorations and original cars.
Articles also seem to be more of an attitude I don't like. I would be
perfectly happy with bunches of articles on young drivers and their
Fox-bodied Mustangs. After all - young drivers should be supported,
and if they start with an accessible, affordable car - that's fine by
me. I'm also not sure I really care about whitewalls or no whitewalls,
whether something is factory installed, or if it is period correct, or
if it is period incorrect - won't win a car show - but makes it so you
can actually drive and enjoy the car.

I don't know. I want to see more articles on people keeping their old
cars on the road and running. I want to read articles about cars like
Tom's 440H and Classic wagon. Cars like wrambler's '69 American. Like
Franks '63 wagon. Like Joe's '65 - getting closer and closer to being
on the road. I want to see articles about regular guys and gals
working on their own cars and using them. If they go for a weber carb
or a Pertronix ignition to help driveability - fine! I really enjoyed
the post on theamcforum with the guy that drove his '62 Classic from
Oklahoma out to California. Cool, epic trip.
