Yes, it has an AMC 20 rear if it was originally a V8 hornet AMX.  The trany I believe is a 904 or a beefed up 904 called a 998.  
 
I parted out a Hornet AMX V8 car and the tranny looks like a 904 to me.

I have a 77 Hornet V8 car (an AMX package). Does this car have a model 20 rear?  Does it have a 904 or 727 tranny?  Does anyone have pictures of the optional "bee" emblem decal on the trunk of a 77 Hornet AMX?
