Re: [AMC-list] 151 4cyl trans to 258-6 interchange question

" User-Agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 (Windows/20090812)
"
" Both the 151 and the 258 used the SR4 transmission in 1980 according
" to the TSM. The gear ratios, however, are different.
"
" Gear 4cyl. 6cyl.
" 1st 4.07 3.50
" 2nd 2.57 2.21
" 3rd 1.66 1.43
" 4th 1.00 1.00
" R 3.95 3.39
"
" This shouldn't be a problem, but the torque rating of the transmission
" is usually dependent on the physical diameter of the gear, with a
" larger diameter gear (and higher ratio) capable of taking more torque.

i've seen it the other way too - limited by output torque, with the
higher ratio giving more multiplication and leading to lower input
rating.
