when i dropped this motor into rosie, i got to looking. and went and grabbed an old oil pump, and was looking at that pump and block. i think you and i both thought of the same idea. block off that oil hole going into the block, drill and tap a hole into the top cover and run oil line to a remote filter kit, and from there back to the oil journal. that was my thought anyway. make it about 1/2" line or so. im thinking im going to do it this spring if i can scrounge up all the pieces. just some measuring, filter relocation kit, (dont think it matters what for, as your only using the lines, and the piece that the filter goes to, not what goes onto the "original filter" piece) and another line back to the block. i wonder how much of the wear on your bearings, and the reason i lost mine, was due to the new oil. someone correct me if im wrong. but wasnt the old oil made to drop any contaminants to the bottom of the pan, but this new oil is made to hold it to get filtered out? reason why now, you always do an oil pump on a rebuild, and a lot of the "gray beards" i talk to, say they never did oil pumps "back in the day". makes sense to me. if you get to your full flow oil filter before i do, pics would be great. and vice versa. ill post pics of mine if i do it before you. i think you and i are going to start leading the way on "improving" (as iftheres much we CAN do) on these 196 motors.
