Sign should read "please return any headbolts what get lodged in your grill" note no e. Well the worst case would be if you used the wrong lube, if so, you could look up how that effects torque and simply re-torque to that new spec now! I doubt you're gonna pull threads or part a bolt at 75 ft/lbs for example. Seriously, you know I might investigate getting a copper head gasket made. > I understand that it is common in the old equipment world (like gasoline > powered Caterpillar equipment) to have head gaskets custom made because > there ain't no factory gaskets no more. > > OK, maybe a call to AMC parts places and/or Kanters etc for a group buy. I'd buy at least two if not more (I have more engines). I have studied my old P.O.S. headgasket, and it pisses me off just looking at it. You know how the cylinders on this motor are "siamesed" -- pairs w/o a main bearing are very close -- well the ones WITH a main, the cyls are about (from memory) 5/8" apart -- the gasket there is still only the narrow 3/16" or 1/4" wide. So there's a shelf for gasses and such to work at the gasket, plus the gasket seal is that much longer, plus worse cooling there. The gasket should not have such symmetry, the *combustion chambers* should. Even if I'm wrong about how the bolts back out the gaskets available today SUCK. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
