Tom, just remember -- it's not just the base, but how wide the carb body is also, and how it sits on the base. The WCD sits with the throttle shaft parallel to the motor, most carbs have the shaft perpendicular to the motor. On the 196 the carb is awful close to the valve cover, which is the main problem.
What carb did the Ford 200/250 use? Did they have a 2V model or were all 1V? Those have the carb close to the valve cover also. I don't recall ever seeing a 2V, not that I've seen a lot of them...

I didn't get to compare the base patterns of the BBD and WCD today sorry.  I did not get to the hangar but I plan to do it tomorrow morning first thing.
