You forgot about the AMC built/powered Jeep trucks! J-10 or J-20, easy to find and get parts for. Wagoneers were pretty well apportioned, so getting AC and such is easy too. 

If something more unique is desired, do what Nash did, and what Stude did with the Champ truck -- cut a Rambler four door off just behind the front doors and build a back for it, then mount it on a truck frame. To keep things modern the frame could be an S-10 with a 64-69 American, older Ranger with 58-63, or a full size common pickup with a 67+ Rebel/Mat on it. The later would look kind of funky, but a 58-62 Classic or 58-63 American are just "dumpy" enough to pull it off (tall and rather short, compared to lower and longer later bodies). I considered that with an old 61-63 American body I have (Ranger or Toyota frame), but decided decided to hunt down a J-10 instead.

I'd forego one of the Deuces (4x6). They are anything but fuel efficient, and don't know the meaning of the word "comfort"!! They were designed to carry a 2.5 ton load cross country (that's why they are "deuce and a halfs") will carry five tons on good roads. You have to be desperate for a big truck to drive one on a regular basis. I occasionally drove one while in service... not what I'd call a "fun ride" -- though it was the first few times. Later I was lucky enough to drive one three hours across Korea. Driving around a base was okay, a long trip was ROUGH!! Don't forget your ear plugs and kidney belt!!

You really need a long wheelbase model probably with a flat bed and a 401 V-8 or some thing 
along that line to pull another trailer with a second car on it. It's doable, but the long wheel base trucks were mostly shipped over seas and there just are not that many here. The shorter wheel base Wrecker version , there is a fair number that survived. The killer is other 
then the car parts , the truck specific parts and there are a few are non existent as far spares go. I've considered it, but it just seems too costly to do to me. 

Your best bet would be either a Studebaker Truck . There are a few people in the SDC who do this with the Studie trucks. There were enough made you can find one. The other alternative with be an AM General 4 X 6 Army truck.
