The YF was stock on older 196 L-heads, but it's a larger diameter than the 1909. Later 196 OHVs used a different carb, as did the 196 in the Classic. You can use another model carb from a 196 OHV and it will bolt up, the YF won't. You'd have to make a new cover plate or an adapter to use the YF.

Would Carter YF carbs work on older 196's? I'm having a hard time
finding a Holley 1909 - but that has been low on my priority list.
