Re: [AMC-list] 1 bbl vs 2bbl

As Tom said the electric heater probably draws a large chunk of amps. Should not be a problem.
IF
Your battery is good
You have a timer and or do not leave it long. Short trips and long idle periods with the heater on will draw down the battery.
The factory used a timing system, iirc. I know they also ran the power through a 3 pole oil pressure switch so the heater did not run unless engine had oil pressure.

A switch to a 51 amp Motorola or similar amp delco should handle power needs.

You probably do not need electric heat. Check to make sure it is not shorted to ground. Remember is at least 20 years old now.

My 64 classic has a 1 bbl carb with the original cast intake. I'm in the middle of replacing it with an '80 Spirit 2 bbl aluminum intake. (Same one I asked about a week or two ago off of ebay)

1. Does it matter what end the coolant flows into and out of the manifold at? (I can't imagine why, but thought I'd ask just in case)
2. I think somebody (maybe Tom J.)said that I could not use the electric heater under the intake manifold cause my alternator couldn't handle it. Am I wrong, or did somebody say that?
3. I'm expecting slightly better gas mileage and a little more horsepower, (think I read about 10 more HP) but will I even notice the difference in either?

One might say that I should of asked number 3 BEFORE I bought this, but it really doesn't matter, I'd of done it anyways. LoL. Mainly cause I wanted to learn how and I like to tinker.

BTW, I successfully replaced my points ignition with the Duraspark system and WOW, it starts MUCH easier than before. Now I gotta see how it does during the winter.
