Re: [AMC-list] Reversed Battery Connections! What did I do???

How much of the car is dead electrically? My guess would be that the fusible link is bad (look at the wire on the battery terminal of the solenoid, if it looks melted or is super flexible, it is bad -- you can also verify with a test light or volt meter). If it is the fusible link, you can get a new one at an auto parts store but you have to crimp them on so you don't melt them from soldering. Make sure the crimp connectors you use are the heat shrink type so you can make a weather tight seal on the crimps. Also, there may be more than one fusible link that needs to be replaced. They will be pointed out in a wiring diagram.

I would also replace the solenoid and look very carefully at battery to solenoid cable to make sure it isn't damaged.

Hey there,
So in getting my eagle ready to be sold, I found it with a dead battery, so I put in one from another car. But I accidentally reversed the pos and neg connections. It started crackling and smoking at the solenoid! I got it disconnected right away, but now the fuel pump won't turn on. What do you think I did, and how can I fix it?
Thanks
Nick
