Sounds more like a valve body problem. I tore a trans down once that had the same problem. Put it back together and STILL had the problem! Shop did another rebuild and found the valve body was messed up. It never did clean out right, ended up replacing it. I'd try pulling the valve body and giving it a thorough cleaning, including soaking the disassembled main body in solvent over night. Blow it all out and put together the next day. All you lose is a pan gasket -- if you have to drain the fluid again you can save it.

Cold start reverse sometimes works. Now only forward when cold. No reverse. No forward when warm. Band adjust or rebuild needed? Snapped band?
