It's a new pump, or NOS? Anyway, it's new. It's very clean around the
water pump and timing chain cover. I'll run a paper towel directly
under the pump and see if it is wet, then post the results. I think I
got it from Autozone, I'll have to look at receipts - but I don't
think I went to a specialist on it.

The puddle on the ground is not near where the hoses enter, nor is it
near the radiator. It is centered directly under the timing chain
cover. Anyway - paper towel time!
