Not always true of any 70's and newer A/C. My first jobs done started about 1972 era and what I did was helped my dad install dealer airs on AMC's and Nissans! Yes, you read that correctly, if you had A/C installed on your Datsun or AMC at Tewells starting about then, chances are a 12 year old boy did the interior install! Anyway, the dealer airs of that time would replace the package tray and run the venting package up above the radio to the center vents. One of the selling points of "dealer air" was that other than the unit being installed at the dealer from the dashboard you could not tell it was not done at the factory! There are some other kits that were installed during that time period that only hung underdash package trays etc, but they are not usualy "dealer air". The kits without the vents were usually bought to save costs as they were cheaper. Maybe AMC waffled back and forth to? Could be some years did not get as much "stuff" as others. Like Frank says in a sense if the unit has no dash vents it is definitely not factory. Maybe not dealer air even? Could be either dealer air or aftermarket? If there are vents built into the dash it's factory installed AC. I have one of the dealer installed units. All the vents are along the package tray, and the blower tucks up under the dash attached to the package tray also. ----------- From: Todd Tomason <jayscore@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Wednesday, July 29, 2009 7:17 > I've been looking at parts for the AC on my Spirit.
