[AMC-list] Jeep CJ-5 alternator revisited.

I am going to be having a look at my father-in-law's 1975 Jeep CJ-5 (along with the 2001 Chevrolet S10 and 1996 Ford F-150) this Saturday. Does anyone have any advice, pictures, TSM scans, etc. that would give me a better idea of where everything goes electrically? The schematic I downloaded from Autozone's Web site show three connections: one ground, one labeled "BLK/TR" with a resistor in the circuit going to the fuse block, and one red one that has two legs, one to the starter solenoid and ignition coil and the other looping around to the alternator again. The vehicle has a plastic connector with a black/white wire going into the harness and a red wire with a bare end coming from it, and a red wire (of the same gauge as the connector wire) coming from the harness with a bare end. The alternator has a provision for the plastic plug and a connector that is a stud with a nut on it. He claims to have connected the red wires together and burned up a rebuilt alternator. Thanks...

Regards,

Russ (from Pa.)
