Just check the width. If you need a narrower one the Ford Ranger 8.8 (any with a 4.0L V-6) is a bit narrower, just right for a 64+ American, which might be right for the Spirit. The Explorer axle is probably next, just 3" or so wider than a Ranger. The Mustang axle may be the same width as the Explorer, or a bit wider, I'm not sure. The Ranger and Explorer use leaf springs, the Mustang will have a four bar rear suspension. Wouldn't be too much work to use that in the Spirit, but you'd have to make a custom upper crossmember to support the upper links. The front spring supports should be modifiable for the lower links. Or just cut the link mounts off and weld on leaf spring saddles, available from any 4x4 shop.

Hi has any one put a mustang 8.8 rearend in a AMC Spirit? Was there any problems, fit etc.
