I am an AMC fan and I have to agree that AMC had some UGLY cars. The Pacer and Gremlin to name two.
HOWEVER, considering everything I have read and seen, I have to think AMC was ahead of their time.
 AMC to my understanding, was always known for good gas mileage and there was an early 80's battery
 powered AMC concept car that was on Ebay. 
 If you consider some of the cars gaining popularity now adays, like most of the Scion's and lots of 
the small electric cars and one person cars being sold now adays, one could say that AMC was UGLY before
 UGLY was cool.

THREE AMCs ON THE HOME PAGE and this is not an AMC event... I can tell 
you
from experience, the LeMons crowd is GREAT! When we raced last year most
everyone knew what a hornet was, and thought it was great. They love 
cars
for their unique oddball selves... and not an impala, 55 chev, 
mousetang,
camaro within miles.................
