 Most likely, the leak is from the hose or t-stat. It will pool in that groove in the timming cover. NOw why would you have to change the intake gasket because you have an oil leak in your timming cover? The 2 have nothing to do with eachother.

GlacierI am forcing Spring to come by getting my 67 Rebel out of 6 month storage
today.  There was coolant on the timing cover of the 290 V8.  I do have to
replace the intake manifold gasket anyway for there is oil seaping from the
timing cover, but could this coolant also be coming from the intake manifold
gasket?  Nothing was leaking from hoses nor the thermostat.  coolant was only on
one side, in a groove, on the timing cover.  Help much appreciated.  Jayson
