anybody know a way to hack past the automatic Blackberry tag?
Wouldn't be so bad if it did not look like I wrote that line to brag!

Especially if you built yourself a rotisarie to spin it around and build on.

You could just take it down there and do the truck arms....

That's my dream for it.

Got my new HD radio/CD/USB/player in the Jeep tonight, sounds AWESOME!
I got to get a bigger USB drive so I can dump ALL my music on it.
To think what 10 years ago if some had said you could do all your music, in your vehicle on something the size of a thumbdrive with no moving parts for less than $200 we'd have told them they were CRAZY!

Hmmm... didn't you have a head gasket leak shortly after, or am I thinking about Bruce Giffiss (who I KNOW had head gasket leak problems...)? I was also thinking that maybe the assembly lube was a problem, might have just been too thick, though I'd think it would squeeze or "melt" out before damaging the bearings even if it had been axle grease! Could have been a reaction though. 

In any case, if you know you're not going to run it long may as well re bearing it and go. There's not a big demand for 196s out there, rebuilt doesn't seem to help much when someone DOES want one. They just want a running engine. Cost $1800+ to build one right, but you can't get more than $400-$500 for it later -- if you can find someone close enough to come get it that wants it at all! Usually when the 196 is about to go (or gone) I start getting lots of "what else fits" questions, especially on the AMC Forum and a couple hot rodder boards I frequent. Mostly "how hard is it to stuff a V-8 in". I need to build that bolt-in "truck arm" kit for the 63-66 Classic/Ambo/Marlin. Too bad a fellow around here who had one wanted too much for the rusted out thing! I could have still used it for a mock-up mule.

Typically pitting is caused by antifreeze or other non oil type contamination.

It is possible the new assembly lube reacted to the old, varnish and sludge causing the clearances to go away.
