If you don't want to just start replacing parts here's what I suggest:  With the ignition turned on, test for voltage at the + post on the coil (between the coil and ground).  Then with the ignition switched to start, test at the same location. You should have something less than 12 volts with the ignition on and a full 12 volts when turned to start. If you don't have either one start tracing back through the ignition switch to find the problem. 

If you do have the voltages mentioned above then the secondary ignition system has a problem (bad coil, or problem in the distributor).
