Thanks a lot for those pics Dave!! Nothing like a nice photo to de-bunk another AMC myth! Obviously the guy who told me the heads would interchange if material was added to the right side was nuts! Bolt pattern is the same, pretty much, but 1/2" wider. Obviously the head he got was from another aluminum engine. Might have been two different castings with one slightly wider, but who knows? We now know for sure the cast iron block head won't fit the aluminum block though. Thanks again for doing the leg work on that one!

the first is of the cast iron block i have stripped down with the headgasket i got. i bought a pair so i had a backup when i replaced caspers a couple years ago. exact same as the one i am running now. you can see, fits the ci head just fine. the next pic is of the aluminum engine with the gasket centerd on cylinders, then next is centerd on the left side of the block with the center 6 bolt holes that will line up with it. the only bolt holes i see that will line up at all.
