Re: [Amc-list] DRUM BRAKES IN THE RAIN -- OH FUN

All; My drums are holding up fine, thanks. I have had to "smooth" out the drums once in the last five years since the conversion, but considering that the drum set up cost next to nothing originally, I am doing just fine. To put in new hardware on all four corners was as expensive as buying the front discs would have been, so I got the rear brakes rebuilt fer nuttin, in the end. Rain does not faze it and panic stops are straight and true. The only thing I liked about the discs was the pedal feel, it felt more true as I remember. But I went back to the drums as I got better stopping and gas miliage with them. My MPG dropped two miles in just the disc swap. Maybe later year discs would have been better as these were 1979, I think.
Drums are more work to maintain since they need adjusting but I am a maintenance nut. I prefer to know what is going on with the car before it breaks down.......russ
