Re: [Amc-list] Overheating - not starting

Pulling a starter from an AMC is pretty easy. Remember to disconnect the
battery first.
Try to determine if the shaft rotates easily or not. If there is too much
slop. shot bushings.
If there is a lot of gunk and you are not a starter guy, get a rebuilt.
otherwise take it apart, clean it, install
new bushings undercut the mica on the commutator a bit, etcetera, (brushes
sometimes if alot of miles on car) put it back together and install/try it.
Like Davis said let us know what cures it.

Definitly a bad starter, bad cable or poor connections. Usually bad ground
or bad starter.
Good luck let us know what fixed it.

I've had a similar problem 3 times on 3 different vehicles in my life. Each
was solved by putting on a new starter. Do you have another starter you can
test
with?

over like a bad battery. Smells a little hot >but not too bad. I've
checked the radiator, battery is good and on a slow charger at all times,
