Hey guys,
One possibility that has not been mentioned is that the Borg Warner trans is a BW T18 or T19 4-speed.  Now I know that the 401 in IH's didn't come with one, but what's to say that wasn't swapped also.

Forgot to put this in my post! The 401 and BW trans could have been transplanted
into the IH from a 71 AMC car. That or the guy just assumed it's a BW trans
due to older IHs having them. It's old -- any number of possibilities!
