It could very well have come from a 71 international. And it would have come with the Borgwarner. International used the 401 in many applications not just scouts and travelalls. The 401 can be found in Farm equipment like combines and such. Also found in school busses of the era.

Yes..... IH V400(AMC 401) was used in 2WD pickups and Travelall's  73 
and 74 and perhaps in 1975.....the auto trans were
727's......I owned a 73 Travelall with a 401 in the mid 70s.....wish I 
still had it.........

so if in fact this 401 has a BW trany it did not come from an IH pickup 
or Travelall.
