Re: [Amc-list] tire size question

195/75R14 is about the closest you can come to the original size on the original wheels. You can also safely run 205/70R14 tires, which are a little wider and only 1/4" smaller in diameter. The difference in diameter isn't enough to throw off the speedo, and I like the wider tire on wet surfaces. For snow and ice the narrower tire may be a bit better. The tread width of the 195 is 7.7", the 205 is 8.1", so they aren't a lot wider. I've run both on my 63 Classic and 63 American with no clearance issues. 205 is IT on the small American, the Classic should handle a 215 if the wheels are at least 7" wide. Stock wheels are 6" -- I wouldn't go over a 205 on them.

I'm *really* trying not to do anything fancy or expensive, or "not in
stock" here. They're going to be bog-standard, boring Goodyear Nordics
because that's what Canadian Tire has in stock - and on sale - right
this minute.

All I care about is getting the right size. Anyone?
