" Having both of them out, I have come to think that it may be possible
" to use the 1967 gearbox with the 62 bell by simply bolting up the upper
" bolts, and making sure that the input shaft retainer fits into the hole in
" the housing. As for the lower bolts, the 67 has a lip on the front face of
" the trans, so I am thinking that the standard bolts which hold the trans to
" the bellhousing could be used together with washers, in order to grab on to
" the lip, and thereby provide the 4 attachment points.
"
" 3 points determine a plane. The top 2 bolts fasten it to the bell, and
" the bearing retainer makes a kind of 3rd point. The bottom 2 points would
" still be needed but I am wondering whether the lip on the trans might be
" enough to hold the trans secure, at least if I can get it to grab with a
" washer.
"
" Let me know your thoughts...

idle armchair-quarterback thoughts --

the trans doesn't act as rear mount for the engine as in a '67, but it
does take some thrust from the torque tube. as long as the line of
that force hits the bellhousing between the trans bolts i think you're
okay, but if the drivetrain ever flexes enough so that the line passes
above the top bolts you might be in trouble.
