[Amc-list] 360/390 4-speed (slightly OT)

i have a 71 ford f100 4x4 that has the 360fe in it. i have a newprocess 435 behind mine. or so i was told when i got it. never looked for #'s. i know its shifter goes into a hole on the top of the trans. i guess thats the "top loader"?? hints the name? i dunno..... 

i do know that one trans ford used in the pickups, f150 and 250, they took 3rd gear, made it a strait 1-1 ratio. 4th gear is an od. i forget what ratio. .80 maybe for 20%?? i forget now. i have a book on all that ford junk around somewhere. 

if a guy to get rid of that god awfully low first gear,get a decent one in for a car, one of them trans out of a 2wd could be helfer stout for a strip car... dont know of any other gear ratios to fix granny gear. 

yes, yes, yes, before i saw the light in amc, i was a frod guy. second to amc, i still more partial to frods than anything else.
