Bruce, 

Last I heard Dupont was trying to perfect the microbes which would convert biomass to butanol.  Naturally, they'll want a patent since I think it's now possible to patent such things.  Hang in there and there may be biomass derived butanol available for you to try.  Until then you could always benefit by buying some Dupont stock.
