Re: [Amc-list] Javelin cutting out

With the quality of some of the Mexican and Chinese parts that have been foisted upon us -- YES. Try a different brand of relay next time. You can take the old one to a Ford dealer and ask for a replacement and SHOULD be able to get a US made one, but it might be twice the price (or more!) of the generic parts store part.

While you're at it though, check the alternator and the main battery wires. If they are really old replace them! If the alternator is putting out too much juice or the wires are really old the relay may be getting overloaded. It won't hurt to go up one size in the starter to relay (and relay to battery) wires -- bigger ones carry more current and last longer.

Well I did some testing last night. With the car running we were
checking all the wires and my brother was looking around the starter
rely and he tapped on it and the car quit. So I started it again he
tapped it and it quit so one more time to make sure and I think we
have found the problem. Now I have replaced that before and it has
about 10,000 miles on that one does it make sense that it would or
could be shot already? Thanks
